  • 11 January, 2016 - News

On December 30, 2015, the Joint Ordinance No.216/2015 was published on the Brazilian Gazette, enabling nationals of certain countries to waive the visa requirement for tourism in the period from June 1 to September 18 2016. Such privilege will be granted to the citizens of Australia, Canada, United States and Japan.

The aim of this legislative act is to simplify the visit of tourists who have, at the same time, the chance to visit the country and to participate in one of the largest events of 2016 – the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The adoption of a short list of countries whose nationals may benefit from the tourist visa waiver aims to reconcile the need of simplifying tourist entry procedures without impairing the appropriate safety measures for the event, since the eyes of the whole world will be facing Rio de Janeiro, the showcase of Brazil.
